Privacy Policy
A. Privacy of Consumer Financial Information
- United Services Credit Union shall take reasonable measures to protect the confidentiality, security, and integrity of each member’s nonpublic personal information consistent with state and federals laws.
- United Services Credit Union shall take careful and reasonable measures to protect the accuracy and privacy of all member information used in conducting business.
- United Services will not collect or maintain information about its members that is not essential for prudent business purposes.
- This policy applies to both members and former members.
B. Responsibilities
- United Services Credit Union officers, directors, committee members, and employees are required to hold in confidence all credit union transactions with members and all information in regards to members’ personal business, except as required or permitted by law.
- It is the responsibility of all officers, directors, committee members, and employees to protect confidential member information.
- It is the responsibility of all officers, committee members, and employees to identify any potential area of exposure, and to take steps to report such discovery, and to assist in correcting the condition that could permit any potential security breach.
- It is further the responsibility of all officers, directors, committee members, and employees to report any actual or threatened unauthorized release of confidential information, and to take steps as may be immediately available to prevent or halt such release.
C. Sharing Information
- It is the policy to prohibit disclosure of member information to third parties concerning accounts with us, except:
a. When such disclosure is necessary to complete transactions.
b. To verify the existence and condition of member’s account for a third party (such as credit bureau) as is permit law. Federal law protects the information United Services Credit Union provides to credit reporting agencies and the Fair Credit Reporting Act strictly governs its use.
c. To comply with any court order or applicable laws or regulations.
d. When given written permission by the member.
- United Services Credit Union does not and will not sell or provide personal information to third parties for independent use.
- United Services Credit Union does share personal information with Cuna Mutual Group with whom we have joint marketing agreements. Information sharing under these agreements is allowed by federal law, since the information is required for the purpose of informing our members about products or services which we believe they may want to know about.
- All contracts and agreements between Cuna Mutual Group and United Services Credit Union include a guarantee that Cuna Mutual Group will safeguard such information.
- If requested, members may be excluded from receiving marketing materials and solicitations from Cuna Mutual Group by calling (828) 255-0809, and pressing 0.
D. Internet Privacy Protection
- United Services Credit Union uses multiple levels of security, beginning with the member’s browser and ending with the credit union’s operating system, which acts as a virtual information vault inside the credit union.
a. Information received via Internet Account Access is secured and passwords are required for access.
b. Information received via online applications is within a secured site.
c. Members must "close" their browser after submitting forms. This limits other people from using the "Back" button and seeing member information.
- United Services Credit Union uses firewalls that are designed to protect account information from unauthorized access.
- United Services Internet Provider also uses firewalls to protect its clients and their members.
E. Administration and Amendments
- Protecting member privacy is an ongoing process, and United Services Credit Union will continue to review the measures taken to safeguard member information.
- Since no policy can address every possible contingency and circumstance, United Services Credit Union management shall use its good faith business judgment in administering this privacy policy, and expects that all employees and committee members will use good faith in their actions to protect the privacy of credit union members.
- United Services Credit Union reserves the right to amend this policy in any respect.
